Seaside reports sewage overflow into Necanicum River due to power outage

Seaside reported that about 15,000 gallons of raw sewage overflowed into the Necanicum River on the afternoon of Dec. 18 due to an extended power outage.
The overflow was near S. Franklin Street and lasted for about an hour and 40 minutes, according to the city.
The city was monitoring bacteria levels and reported the overflow to the Oregon Emergency Response System.
High winds caused power outages across the North Coast.
According to Pacific Power, more than 16,000 customers lost power from Knappa to Arch Cape.
Schools in Seaside and Warrenton were closed Dec. 18.
