A 24-year-old tradition will be repeated as the Seaside Museum and Historical Society hosts its annual Gingerbread Tea at Butterfield Cottage on Saturdays through Dec. 20.

Attendees can get into the holiday spirit or take a break from holiday stress as they enjoy homemade gingerbread with a variety of teas, hot spiced cider and hot chocolate while being entertained by musician Jeff Blanche.

The Butterfield Cottage will be decorated in Victorian holiday style and open for gingerbread and tea from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6, 13 and 20.

No reservation is necessary; tickets, available at the door, cost: $3 for children aged 12 and under and $5 for all others. The ticket includes admission to the museum during the event. The museum, 570 Necanicum Drive, is four blocks north of the Seaside Civic and Convention Center.

Raffle tickets, at $1 each or 8 for $5, will be available for several items contributed by local merchants. The drawing will be at the end of the last Gingerbread Tea, at 4 p.m. Dec. 20.

Gingerbread Tea at the Butterfield Cottage is an annual fundraiser for the Seaside Museum. This year’s sponsor is Safeway.

Horace Seely Butterfield, a prominent Portland jeweler, built the Butterfield Cottage in 1893. The house originally was at 21 N. Columbia St.

In 1984, the Butterfield Cottage was given to the Seaside Museum and Historical Society and moved to its present location at 570 Necanicum Drive. It has been interpretively restored to be used as a museum depicting a beach cottage and rooming house of 1912.

Gingerbread Tea at Butterfield Cottage is the major annual fundraiser for the Seaside Museum and Historical Society, a nonprofit educational institution that collects, preserves and interprets materials illustrating Seaside’s history.
