Disaster preparation focus of program

A citywide emergency preparedness program in Gearhart is set for 10 a.m. Aug.16 at the Gearhart Volunteer Fire Department.

The city of Gearhart, Gearhart Citizens Emergency Response Team and Gearhart Fire Department will put on the event for neighbors to learn how to prepare themselves, their families and their community for natural disasters, from winter storms to tsunamis.

Topics to be discussed include:

• Go Bags: Prepare supplies for a disaster

• Fire safety

• Tsunami maps, evacuation and geology

• Ham radio: The benefits of communication

• Pet care during a disaster

• Clatsop Alerts: Clatsop County’s emergency notification system

• CERT recruitment: What is CERT, why should you join?
