Seaside’s Maddie Menke runs up one of the many hills on the Ridgeline Trail.

The second annual Ridgeline Invitational saw familiar faces crossing the finish line first.

Jayden Warner, of Warrenton High School, and Maddie Menke, of Seaside High School, defended their titles in the boys and girls races on Oct. 5.

After a successful debut last season, the rugged Ridgeline Trail around Seaside High School once again provided runners with a grueling test.

Warner continued his torrid pace to start his junior season as he ran a 17:19, crossing the line almost two minutes faster than Jacob Carpenter, of Southwest Christian. Henry Rollins was the first runner for Seaside. Rollins finished 11th place overall in a time of 21:14.

The girls race saw Menke defend her home turf as she outdueled Adelynn Williams, of Hillsboro, in a back-and-forth contest. The two athletes traded the lead a couple of times and were never more than a few seconds away from each other the whole race. Menke came home in 22:22, just two seconds ahead of Williams, who ran 22:24.

Payten Buckelew led home the Warrenton trio with a sixth-place finish. She was followed by Brenna Qualm, in 11th, and Emma Stevens, in 14th.

Qualm and Stevens ran most of the race together until the last 300 meters, where Qualm outkicked two runners once the two arrived on the track.
