Biamont, a rising sophomore, plays baritone and alto saxophones. Drummer Ruff started at age 5 playing piano before she transitioned to drums. The students will study in the daytime, and perform in the evening.

Briana Boyd and Frida Spell also received Lighthouse Jazz Society scholarships to join students across the state with the Oregon Ambassadors of Music on a European tour for 16 days this summer. Among destinations, they will London, Paris and Switzerland.

Boyd and Spell are member of the high school’s symphonic band and jazz ensembles.

Boyd, a rising junior, plays flute and piccolo. She started playing flute in sixth grade, and plays in the symphonic band. Spell, a guitarist, will be a senior at the high school this fall. She performs in both the symphonic and jazz bands.

John Johnson, 15, from Ilwaco High School, Ilwaco, Washington, also received a scholarship. He is a recipient of LHJS scholarship to attend Central Washington University Jazz Camp in July.

The Lighthouse Jazz also donated $1,000 to the Seaside High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Terry Dahlgren in May.
