Letter: Clear choice

I am so proud to be endorsing my good friend Paulina Cockrum for Gearhart City Council to ensure Gearhart remains a pro-residential low-density community.

Paulina is an excellent and experienced public servant, spending over 15 years combined on the Planning Commission and City Council. She also finds time to volunteer for the local Community Emergency Response Team, as Gearhart emergency preparedness is one of her focuses. As a former planning commissioner and mayor, it has been my honor to serve alongside her.

Paulina understands the Gearhart Comprehensive Plan, and has vowed to protect what makes Gearhart so special, its low-density residential character. With her opponent, David Savinar, and his associates, candidates Bob Morey and Pat Roberts, you hear a lot of talk of increasing short-term rentals, decreasing lot sizes, adding higher-density developments and turning Gearhart into another coastal tourist community.

What you won’t hear from them is how to keep vital open space, prepare for emergencies and natural disasters, protect existing property values and quality of life and continue existing nightly rental regulations to protect our neighborhoods. With Savinar, Morey and Roberts trying to pack the council, they could have the majority votes to change the comprehensive plan and quickly turn Gearhart into another Lincoln City.

Paulina is the clear choice; she has the experience, character and guts to fight for our residents and protect the Gearhart we know and love. Please join me in voting for Paulina for City Council, and keep Gearhart residential.
