- Johanne Porterfield
It is with great sadness that our beloved Johanne Yvonne Witty Porterfield has left us on Oct. 18. She was loved and will forever be missed by her children, Kerry, Brad, James, Sally and Bruce, and her grandchildren, Brittania, Blake, Riley and Jack.
Johanne was born on Jan. 7, 1932, to John and Adina Witty, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
John and Adina Witty owned and operated Witty Drugs on Broadway.
Johanne could often be found working alongside her parents, making chocolate sodas.
After working hard, she would sneak to the back steps to have a chocolate bar to satisfy her sweet tooth.
Johanne was a proud graduate of Seaside High School and Oregon State University. Go Beavers!
After moving away and marrying Ken Porterfield, she would often take trips back to Seaside with her children. They would spend their summers at the beach with her relatives, the Morterud family. She enjoyed her late-night escapes to the Pig ‘N Pancake to enjoy waffles and bacon.
Her kids’ favorites included the aquarium, arcade, Tom ‘N’ Larry’s fudge, saltwater taffy, clamming and bonfires on the beach.
They also loved to wind down with a delicious bowl of clam chowder from Norma’s.
Although moving away, Seaside always held a special place in her heart. Johanne loved sharing her stories, memories and adventures of Seaside with her family. She will forever remain in our hearts.
