Letter: Stepped forward

On Nov. 5, Gearhart will elect a mayor and two city councilors. Robert “Bob” Morey is running for mayor. Patricia Roberts is running for City Council Position 4, and David Savinar is running for City Council Position 2.

We are three individuals — a moderate, a conservative and a liberal — who have stepped forward to serve a community we love. We offer a fiscally conservative, commonsense approach to retain Gearhart’s character that transcends political differences. We will adopt an open and positive approach to addressing critical issues that shape our city’s future direction.

Two issues dominate our city’s immediate future. The public safety building and our water supply.

The voices of more than 500 Gearhart residents stopped the City Council’s reach for Lesley Miller Park as a potential public safety building location. The three of us strongly support permanent protection of Lesley Miller Park from grabs by future city councils.

The City Council has shifted its focus to one location — the current fire station site. We will ensure the design and construction of a new public safety building meets all legal requirements, and satisfies the expectations of our residents and fire and police staff. The cost must be affordable to earn our community’s support.

We want to meet you and talk to you. Please join us Oct. 26, or Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. in the cafeteria of the former Gearhart Elementary School.
