Astoria baseball beats rival

Seaside hosted the Clatsop Clash part two on May 6. Although game one was close with Astoria winning 4-1, May 6’s game was not as the Fishermen put the hurt on their rivals with a 15-5 thrashing.

The game was competitive in the early part. Astoria opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second only to see Seaside respond with four in the third.

A 4-3 lead was the last one the Seagulls would have as the Fishermen scored multiple runs from the fourth through the seventh to win by 10.

Astoria had 13 hits and 11 walks on the day. Garrett Hillard and Teague Palmberg had three runs batted in each, Merrick Benesch started on the mound and had two RBI’s, and Jacob Klepp walked four times.

For Seaside, the top of the lineup was very productive. Jake White and Hayden Halsen had two hits, and Tallen Kraushaar had three hits, but they were not able to slow down Astoria’s bats.

The victory means Astoria will win the season series after Seaside took it last year.

Seaside softball breaks into win column

Seaside High School softball has been knocking on the door of their first league win and finally broke through May 2 against Tillamook High School. Behind good pitching and hitting, the Seagulls won 8-4 against the Cheesemakers.

The Seagulls had 15 hits in the game, including six in the first inning. Seaside struck early with six runs in the first and hung on for the victory. Lydia Klumper and Layla Verozza led the Seagulls with three hits apiece, while Taylor Betts led the way with three runs batted in.

Scappoose completes sweep in softball

After being pushed to the brink of an upset on April 29, Scappoose High School softball handled Seaside on April 30.

The Indians took advantage of eight errors from the Seagulls and cruised to a 13-1 victory. Scappoose held Seaside to just one hit.

Tillamook gets even with Seaside baseball

After losing the first game of the three-game series, Tillamook High School got even with Seaside on May 1. The Cheesemakers defeated the Seagulls 9-5.

Hayden Halsen, Tallen Kraushaar and Kai Toyooka drove in the runs for Seaside in the loss.
