From Dec. 27 through Dec. 31, Oregon State Parks will host its Winter Whale Watch Week at 15 sites along the Oregon Coast, including one outside of Arch Cape.

Each December, thousands of grey whales migrate south through the waters on the Oregon Coast. Winter Whale Watch Week is an annual opportunity for visitors to catch a glimpse of the whales and learn from trained volunteers, who are stationed at the sites from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily.

The Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay will also be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Dec. 27 through Dec. 31. The facility has interactive whale exhibits, binoculars and park rangers on duty to answer questions.

Whale Watch Week visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring binoculars and follow safety guidelines. A list of safety tips and a map of the volunteer-staffed sites are available online.
