Letter: Cherish

Schools get a lot of negative press. I just want to share a different point of view.

I have a grandson who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder due to multiple traumas he experienced at a very young age. He has attended Seaside schools throughout. From his first day in Belinda Sampson’s kindergarten class, he has been surrounded by people who seem to have an unending capacity for caring.

From the administrators, teachers, support staff, cooks and bus drivers, everyone seemingly only has him to support. Of course, that is far from true, but it sure has felt like it.

It certainly has not been a breeze. He has challenged everyone. The depth of patience is phenomenal. We are proud to say, he will graduate next week with his class.

During his Pacifica presentation, he was surrounded by support from Seaside High School principal Jeff Roberts, assistant principal Jason Boyd, resource room teacher Katherine Ethridge and many more. All of whom took time from their lives to attend his presentation.

No one will ever convince me that schools are not doing their jobs and more. While we have certainly felt the love and support shown to us and our guy, we know every other kiddo enjoys just as much. It is mind-boggling to imagine how this is accomplished.

I would thank each and every one of you individually, but the number is prohibitive, so I’ll just say, thank you, Seaside School District, we cherish every one of you.
