Over 19,000 Pacific Power customers in Clatsop County lost power just before 6 p.m. Monday.
The outages were attributed to high winds from Cannon Beach up through the Knappa and Brownsmead areas. The Pacific Power website reported that 19,836 customers from Knappa to Cannon Beach were affected Monday night. The company said crews had been dispatched to restore power.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, Pacific Power’s website said that more than 2,700 customers from Seaside to Knappa were still without power. By mid-afternoon Tuesday, the number had dropped to just over 2,500. A spokesperson for Pacific Power said power is estimated to be restored to all areas no later than 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In some areas, the power outages are due to wind and downed trees, Pacific Power said, but the cause of other outages is under investigation.
The power outages and weather-related wind damage prompted delays at schools and businesses. Schools in Astoria, Jewell and Knappa were delayed two hours on Tuesday, as was the Clatsop Service Center of the Northwest Regional Education Service District.
