Prep basketball: Seaside basketball teams stay hot

The Seaside girls basketball team notched another win this week to claim its fifth straight victory and remain perfect in Cowapa League play.
The Seagulls beat Scappoose, 62-48, on the road Jan. 28. The team now is 4-0 in league play and 9-6 overall.
The No. 12 Seagulls have three games in the next seven days, starting with a Jan. 31 nonleague home game against the Neah-Kah-Nie Pirates. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
Next week brings a Feb. 4 road match against Astoria; the Fishermen will be seeking to avenge a 51-43 loss in Seaside on Jan. 17. The Seagulls return home Feb. 6 for a game against St. Helens. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in that game.
Meanwhile, the Seaside boys have a four-game winning streak of their own going after a pair of victories in the last week. The Seagulls beat Tillamook, 55-41 at home on Jan. 24 and followed up with a 63-47 win at Scappoose on Jan. 28. The Seagulls are 4-1 in Cowapa League play, 8-8 overall.
The team also has three games scheduled in the next seven days, starting with a Jan. 31 home game against Neah-Kah-Nie. The Pirates boast a 6-1 league record and are 11-5 overall. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
The Seagulls then hit the road for a Feb. 4 game at Astoria and follow that up by entertaining St. Helens on Feb. 6; tipoff is at 7 p.m.
Elsewhere
The Knappa girls team has won three times over the last week, with a 52-29 win Jan. 24 against Nestucca, a scrappy 30-19 win over Vernonia on Jan. 25 and a 64-15 romp over Gaston on Jan. 27. The No. 9 Loggers are 8-1 in Northwest League play, 14-5 overall. Guard Mylie Lempea poured in 18 points against Nestucca and followed up with 11 points against Vernonia.
Meanwhile, the Logger boys have won four in a row, including a 55-30 win Jan. 24 against Nestucca, a 54-22 win Jan. 27 against Gaston and a 48-45 win over Faith Bible/Life Christian on Jan 29. The No. 9 Loggers are 16-3 overall and 8-1 in Northwest League play.
The Astoria girls team is on a two-game winning streak, including a 44-17 win Jan. 24 over St. Helens. The No. 10 Fishermen are 2-1 in Cowapa League play, 6-7 overall.
The Astoria boys team lost to St. Helens, 64-54, on Jan. 24 to fall to 1-3 in league play, 3-11 overall.
The Warrenton girls lost to Banks, 79-29, on Jan. 24 and now are 0-6 in Coastal Range League play, 1-14 overall.
The Warrenton boys lost to Banks, 50-45 on Jan. 24 to fall to 4-2 in league play, 11-7 overall.
