One person found dead after fire at homeless camp

One person was found dead Jan. 22 after a fire at the Seaside homeless camp on Avenue S.
Officials did not release the identity of the dead person and said investigation was continuing into the incident.
The Seaside Police Department and Seaside Fire & Rescue responded just before 1 p.m. Wednesday to a 911 call about a fire at the camp.
When first responders arrived at the homeless camp on 855 Ave. S., they saw smoke. A resident had used a hose to contain the fire to one tent before responders arrived.
Detectives from the Seaside Police Department, assisted by area detectives and a death investigator, are working to determine the cause of death, a press release from the city said. Seaside Fire & Rescue is working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
Officials said they would provide updates as more information was available.
