Prep Roundup: Seaside football starts fast, fades late against Marist Catholic

- Jake White scores a touchdown for Seaside against Marist Catholic.
Sept. 20 felt like deja vu for Seaside High School football.
Two weeks ago against Banks, the Seagulls marched down the field for an opening drive touchdown, only to see their offense self destruct with penalties, drops, bad snaps and turnovers.
Sept. 20 started off much the same. Seaside came out fired up for their rematch against Marist Catholic and played like it on the opening drive. The Seagulls walked down the field without facing much resistance and a Jake White touchdown got them on the board early. But, much like the week before against Banks, the same things happened.
The Seagulls didn’t score after their opening drive touchdown in large part because of the same issues. There were two bad snaps over the head of quarterback Zayden Anderson, a number of drops and the Seagulls offensive line struggled to contain the Marist Catholic front four.
In the end, a game that started off promising ended in a 35-7 defeat. With the loss, Seaside falls to 2-2 on the season and have now lost two straight games by a combined score of 67-21. With Cowapa League rival Scappoose next up, it doesn’t get any easier for the Seagulls as they will hope to use their bye week to iron out the issues that have plagued them over the last two games.
One of the bright spots for Seaside on Sept. 20 was White. He dazzled the crowd with three one-handed catches and led the Seagulls defense with seven tackles, with two coming behind the line of scrimmage for losses.
