Letter: Disdain

Former President Donald Trump’s disdain for our dead soldiers is an echo from Hotspur’s monologue in Shakespeare’s “Henry IV, Part 1.”

Hotspur says, “came there a certain lord … / And as the soldiers bore dead bodies by, / He called them untaught knaves, unmannerly. / To bring a slovenly unhandsome cor(p)se / Betwixt the wind and his nobility.”

Trump’s disgust for those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom shows how often reality reflects fiction.
