Seaside High School came into 2024 with high expectations after reaching the 4A state quarterfinals for the first time since 2018 last season.

The Seagulls return a number of key starters from last year’s team in quarterback Zayden Anderson, all-state running back Ryder Jackson, two-way standout Jake White and wide receiver Jordan Westerholm and also saw Barett Blodgett transfer from Warrenton over the summer.

The Seagulls traveled south on Aug. 30 to take on North Bend High School. After a scoreless first quarter, Seaside ran off 28 straight points to take a 28-0 lead into the halftime break. Though North Bend made the score respectable, the Seagulls were able to come home with a 35-24 victory.

Anderson and Jackson put on a show in the opener. Anderson went 10 for 16 through the air for 248 yards and three touchdowns, while Jackson carried the ball six times for 48 yards and scored one touchdown. Jackson also had three receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Blodgett had four catches for 61 yards, while White had 63 total yards, two touchdowns and led the team in tackles with five.

Seaside will be on the road once again Sept. 6 as they travel to Junction City.
