Letter: Sad day

It was another sad day for representative government in Clatsop County on Aug. 7, when Clatsop County’s Board of Commissioners decided to proceed with new amendments to the county’s Land and Water Development and Use Code, geared toward fast-tracking housing development and drastically reducing public involvement.

Ignoring 25 letters communicating opposition to the amendments submitted by impacted residents and other concerned parties, one letter including 60 residents’ signatures, the commissioners in record time green-lighted these ill-conceived and premature land use code changes.

These amendments could severely limit future public involvement regarding development in several unincorporated zones in the county.

I encourage residents of Clatsop County to view the Aug. 7 work session, including public comment, at bit.ly/3M45irV, to see for themselves how their commissioners are (mis-)representing them.
