Hamlet
Aug. 16, 1960 — June 9, 2024
Richard Owen “Ripper” Walsborn was born on Aug. 16, 1960, in Seaside, to Richard Alfred “Dickie” Walsborn and Jean Adele (Mulligan) Walsborn.
Rich lived his entire life in the Seaside area, graduating from Seaside High School in 1978, where he excelled in all sports as a natural athlete.
He married his longtime love, Christina Garcia, on Dec. 22, 2007, on their back deck in Hamlet, overlooking the forest and surrounded by loved ones.
Rich spent many years working as a sanitation engineer in his parents’ business, Cannon Beach Sanitary Service, and later for Western Oregon Waste, when the business was sold.
He loved chopping and splitting firewood, and sold bundles of firewood to local businesses during his retirement.
Rich was an avid golfer throughout his life, and continued to play the sport up until his final days.
He loved animals and wildlife, and would feed the chipmunks in his front yard, sometimes right out of his hand. He loved watching the elk graze along his property, the Ponderosa Jr.
He had a great sense of humor, and went out of his way to ensure everyone felt welcome. The local Hamlet children were especially dear to him.
Rich is survived by his wife, Christina; sons, Preston and Richard Tyler; grandchildren, Evelyn, Lincoln and Reagen; sister, Peggy Green, and her husband, Dan; nephew, Cory Green; nieces, Brittany, Bayley and Briana Brigham; great-nephew, Carmello; mother-in-law, Sandy Garcia; brothers-in-law, Charlie, Mike and Mark Garcia; and by his beloved dog, Otis.
Rich was preceded in death by both of his parents, as well as his sister, Christy Brigham.
A celebration of life will be held at the Hamlet Schoolhouse, 80859 Hamlet Road in Seaside, at 1 p.m. Aug. 18. A barbecue will be provided, and guests may bring a dish or dessert to share for a potluck.
Charitable contributions can be made to his favorite charity, Seaside Kids Inc.
