The building that houses the Seaside Aquarium turns 100 years old on Aug. 9, 2024. Originally opened in 1924 as a natatorium, an indoor saltwater swimming pool popular around the turn of the 20th century, the Seaside Aquarium has been in operation in the space since 1937. At the height of their popularity, Seaside had two natatoriums. Saltwater was pumped into the buildings directly from the Pacific Ocean. The last local natatorium closed in the 1960s.
