Letter: It’s the economy, stupid!

As a resident of Ward 1, I support the recall of Steve Dillard from the Seaside City Council.
The city of Seaside needs to be focused on improving the local economy, infrastructure and housing affordability. Our ability to have a successful and thriving economy is based on our reputation of being a welcoming place for all.
Dillard’s dog whistle of “protecting children” is shameful. He’s using children as his shield to advance an agenda that denies support, inclusivity, diversity and the freedoms so many have fought for. He’s created a nonissue, and cast false aspersions on the institution of our library, in order to push a partisan agenda that has no place for his role.
His continuation to press against the LGBTQ+ community is harmful to us all. He has been asked to stop, and he has repeatedly refused. His antics have become newsworthy, and paint a distasteful picture of what is a welcoming community for all. Apparently the only way to stop Dillard is with a recall.
Seaside has invested in, promoted and spent years building up a reputation of being a destination for all. Our local economy is centered around tourism and events. Dillard seems hell-bent on destroying all that hard work, money and invested time. Trust in our community has been gained in drops, and his damaging rhetoric is losing it in buckets.
Cast your vote to recall Dillard, and let’s get back to what really matters!
