Edwin Leroy Hudson, known as Leroy, was surrounded by the love and comfort of his children and sisters as he unexpectedly passed away on May 24.

We, his children, Omeica, Cheyanne, Jared, Carolyn and Olivia, grandchildren, sisters, Carolyn, Debbie and Barbara, and loved ones, will always remember him as a kind, loving, generous, extremely hardworking, funny and resilient man.

Leroy knew how to love people as they were, unconditionally. Our dad taught us that it didn’t matter what title, label or material possession a person had. What mattered was who that person was on the inside. He taught us to hear others’ truths and have empathy and understanding for people.

Our dad taught us to love and help others, that our siblings will be our best friends and family is always No. 1! He also showed us how to be resilient. He taught us that anything we wanted was achievable with enough determination and hard work. He educated us on how to use our voices and that our thoughts matter.

Our dad engaged us in debate and intellectual conversations in order to teach us how to hear other people, especially when we don’t necessarily agree with the person. He taught us to think critically and ask questions, specifically of those in authority and power. Our dad taught us to have common sense, that if we do something, we better do it right, and it is easier to do it right the first time.

Our dad saw many trials in his lifetime and never gave up the battle to overcome them. As he lived, he taught us that all of humanity is connected and experiences many challenges. He taught us that those challenges do not define us, to look for the good in people, and that we are all capable of so much more than we think.

Thank you, Dad, for your unconditional love and support. We will carry your love and teachings on in this world.

For most of Leroy’s life he lived and worked in the Astoria, Warrenton and Seaside area. He had many friends and connections in this community.

A memorial service is not yet planned, but his family would love to hear any stories and thoughts you would like to share. Please email omeica@hotmail.com your stories, thoughts or memories of Leroy.
