Elizabeth Jasmin

Elizabeth “Betsy” Jo (Ross) Jasmin, passed away on March 23 after battling a sudden onset of stage 4 cancer while at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

She was born on March 16, 1948, in Portland. Betsy was the daughter of Robert and Viola (Ruby) Ross, who preceded her in death. She was a longtime resident of Clatsop County.

She was not just a mother, a friend, a wife or a grandmother; she was an angel to all who met her. She was friends with all she talked to.

Her selflessness knew no bounds. She would go to great lengths to help anyone at anytime, without hesitation. Her life was a testament to love, family and unshakable faith in Jesus.

Her heart was a treasure trove of kindness and generosity. She lived to give, always putting others’ needs before her own. She spent her days worrying about others, constantly ensuring everyone around her was cared for and loved up until the last minute.

We will miss her more than words can explain. We all find peace in knowing that she is with Jesus, free from pain, and guiding us from above. Everyone hopes to leave a mark on this world. Well, she succeeded.

We have never looked up to someone more, and dream of achieving all she has done for this community and her family as we go through life ourselves. Her love and kindness will forever live on in our hearts and memories.

Betsy married Melvin Jasmin on March 2, 1974. He survives her, living in Warrenton.

She is one of six siblings. Her brother, Robert (Debra) Ross, and sister, Linda (Melvin) Ross Cloud, and their spouses, preceded her in death. Her younger sister, Rebecca (Randy) Everson, brother, Darrell (Butch) Ross, and sister, Sandra Marsch, survive.

Betsy is also survived by her sons, Sam (Carrie) Jasmin, of Warrenton, and Troy (Jennie) Jasmin, of Shelton, Washington; stepdaughters, Mickie Jasmin, of Grants Pass, and Serina (Oley) Olson, of Warrenton; and a stepson, Clayton Jasmin, of Portland. Betsy had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who survive her and who will continue to carry on many family traditions she held tightly to her heart.

Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland.

A celebration of life is planned for later in April.

Hughes-Ransom Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
