Dale was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and began his educational journey at Phelps Elementary School. His formative years continued at Lynnwood High School, following his family’s relocation to Lynnwood, Washington.
Dale’s early career reflected his eclectic interests, ranging from newspaper delivery to roles in food service, electronics sales, being a cashier at Fred Meyer and, ultimately, driving for Seaside Road Runners in Seaside.
In 1993, Dale made the heartfelt decision to move to Seaside, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to his son, Adam. This move also maintained a cherished friendship with his former spouse and her extended family.
Music was Dale’s lifelong passion, serving as the backdrop to his life’s narrative. A self-taught musician, Dale played the trumpet, guitar and drums. His melodies and rhythms mirrored his indomitable spirit.
His affinity for classic rock and hits from the 1960s through the 1980s led him to DJ in local clubs and he became a much-loved karaoke host at the Iredale Inn sports bar in Warrenton. His spontaneous jam sessions, notably with close friends and his son, were among the most joyous moments of his musical journey.
Dale’s love for the Hawaiian Island of Maui was profound, having visited multiple times following radiation treatments for lymphoma. He wholeheartedly embraced the aloha spirit, and had eagerly anticipated a return trip this April with his brother, William, and his life partner, Beth Whisnant, of Port Orchard, Washington.
However, in a tribute to Dale’s wishes, his son, Adam, and Adam’s new fiancée, Courtney Cruz, will make the journey to perform a small private scattering of Dale’s ashes.
Dale’s memory will be cherished by his parents, Robert and Corinne Dreke; his brother, William Dreke, and his life partner, Beth Whisnant; his sister, Debbie Sage, and her husband, Stuart, and their children, Jeanette, Michael and Deanna; his son, Adam; his dear friends and housemates, Derrick and Heidi Laws; and a community of friends who revered him for his talent, wit and magnanimous spirit.
His departure creates a void that will be filled with the echoes of his laughter and the melodies he shared.
Dale’s legacy endures, and his spirit remains a beacon of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
