Seaside honors 2024 Hall of Fame inductees

The Seaside Hall of Fame induction ceremony is back.

For the first time since 2019, Seaside High School will honor individuals, teams and organizations for the contributions they’ve made to the community.

Six individuals, four teams and two local organizations will be honored during halftime of the boys basketball game against Tillamook on Feb. 16.

The induction ceremony will take place on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Seaside High School cafeteria.

The 2024 Seaside High School Hall of Fame class includes:

Tauna Dean

A member of the Class of 1995, Dean is one of the founding members of the Key Club at Seaside High School. She also was a three-sport athlete, lettering in volleyball, basketball and softball. Dean also was senior class president.

Kerry Arndt

Arndt, a member of the Class of 2000, was a decorated athlete. She participated in soccer, basketball and track. Arndt was a member of the all-state team for soccer, and was also a captain. She played two years of varsity basketball, where she set the record for assists. She also ran track for two years. She is currently the press secretary for Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Bill Eddy

A graduate of the Class of 1972, Eddy was a well-known football player. He was a three-year football letterman, two-time all-league, one-time all-state and the 1971 Cowapa League Lineman of the Year. Eddy went on to play football at Pacific University and Oregon State University before a knee injury ended his football career.

Greg Elliott

A member of the Class of 1980, Elliott was a decorated student-athlete. He played four years of varsity basketball and golf. Elliott received Cowapa League All-Star recognition in both sports. He also was an individual state champion in boys golf in 1980.

Claire Lovell (1920-2017)

Lovell’s roots in Seaside were deep. She attended both Central School and Seaside Union High School, where she was the salutatorian in the Class of 1937. Lovell’s column, “Scene and Heard,” also ran in the Seaside Signal for many years.

Ashley Mayfield Sandoz

A member of the Class of 2009, Sandoz participated in cross-country, basketball and track. She broke the school record in the 1500 meters. In basketball, she was named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

2013 Culinary Arts state champions

Under the tutelage of chef John Newman and chef Will Leroux, this team came together to win the 2013 state championship. The team of Clayton Burgin, Adam Hutchinson, Ray Robledo, Angel Arciga and Abigail Hines prepared the best three-course meal in the tournament.

2014 boys golf state champions

The team of Sam Hinton, Shane Fritter, Aaron Richardson, Trenton Meyer and Donald Zwahlen won the state title by six strokes. The team, led by coach Jim Poetsch, went 4-0 in league play and had every golfer named to the all-league team. Fritter and Hinton were named to the all-state team.

2015 boys cross-country state champions

The team of Bradley Rzewnicki, Hunter Thompson, Rafi Sibony, Jackson Januik, Colton Carter, Juneau Meyer and Jake Whittle won the district championships with 35 points, followed by Tillamook and Valley Catholic. The boys with 49 points were named state champions. Rzewnicki and Thompson crossed the line in first and fifth in the state meet.

2017 boys basketball state champions

The Seagulls, coached by Bill Westerholm, went 24-1 on the year, losing just once to Valley Catholic. The Seagulls would avenge that loss in the state title game, winning 71-63.

Jackson Januik was unanimously named to the Tournament all-state team, while Attikin Babb and Chase Januik were both named to the all-state second team. Januik was also named Player of the Year for the 4A division and Hunter Thompson was named to the all-state second team.

Serving the local community since 1919, Knutsen Insurance is an independent insurance agency providing a wide range of products and services for businesses, individuals and families throughout the Northwest.

Pacific Basketball League

Founded in 1993 by Frank and Kerri Januik, Pacific Basketball League is a nonprofit that provides extracurricular activities in the Seaside area. It serves first through sixth grades for boys and girls. Pacific Basketball League also has yearly tournaments.
