- Highway closures and power outages impacted the North Coast after a blast of winter weather on Jan. 13.
Icy weather conditions on the morning of Jan. 13 prompted U.S. Highway 101 to close at the junction with U.S. Highway 26 near Seaside.
Highway 101 reopened the afternoon of Jan. 13.
Pacific Power reported power outages in Gearhart, Seaside, Cannon Beach and other places across the region. Power was restored for most customers by late Jan. 13 and early Jan. 14.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said freezing rain made roads slippery, making driving difficult.
Clatsop County issued an emergency alert on Jan. 13 urging people to stay home. The county said the hazardous and icy conditions made it difficult to apply treatments to roads and sidewalks to counter the ice.
