- John Cooney was recognized by the International Game Fish Association for catching the world’s longest albacore tuna, measuring 87 centimeters, or 34.25 inches, besting the previous record by about an inch. Cooney caught the tuna roughly 40 miles off the Washington state coast while live-bait fishing out of the Port of Ilwaco with skipper Houston Aho in September.
