Coons

Geraldine Anita Clark White Coons, Gerri to almost everyone, of Seaside and too many other places to name, passed away on Dec. 16, at the age of 84.

She was born on April 17, 1939, in Danville, Kentucky, then lived her childhood in Cincinnati, Ohio.

She graduated from Hughes High School in Cincinnati, and had an associate’s degree from Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana, in nutrition. She worked in the health care or hospitality industry most of her adult life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Coons.

She is survived by her four children, Greg White, Jean Rice, Kevin White and Leslie Stube; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

As dementia was taking hold, Gerri would have some interesting conversations. This is a quote from one of those conversations with her daughter: “Jean, your memory is so bad, you can’t remember anything. We are here to move the hotel to the other room so Kevin can come and take it away.”

The family would like to thank Hamilton Trace in Fishers, Indiana, and especially the Memory Care Unit, for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.

The family will be having a gathering to celebrate her life closer to her birthday in April.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Geraldine Coons’ honor to Hamilton Trace, Memory Care Unit, 11851 Cumberland Road, Fishers, IN., 46037 or Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA., 18901, or online at dementiasociety.org/donate.
