Rangers and volunteers will lead free guided hikes at 31 state parks across Oregon on Jan. 1 as part of the First Day Hikes program.
First Day Hikes is a national program sponsored by America’s State Parks, meant to encourage people to start the year in the outdoors. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has participated since 2012.
For more information about hike locations, times and details, people can visit the Oregon State Parks website. A few hikes require registration. Visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring water and binoculars. Parking fees will be waived.
