Transit district faces website troubles

The Sunset Empire Transportation District’s website has been down since Aug. 21.

The website used by the Sunset Empire Transportation District has been down since Aug. 21, complicating public access to bus route information. Transit district staff is encouraging the public to use an alternate website —nwconnector.org — to obtain route information.

At a transit board meeting on Aug. 24, interim executive director Paul Lewicki explained that the lack of access is a result of the website’s domain name expiring. Staff have been unable to determine who owns the account with the web provider, but are working to resolve the issue.

“We’re going to have a bit of time where people don’t know how to get to us,” Lewicki said. “It’s critical for our business. It’s critical for our image. It’s critical for our public meeting compliance. It has been the most frustrating, unbelievable process to just get the door shut everywhere we turn.”

The transit district temporarily suspended operations in late April after a financial collapse. The district is offering limited bus routes while trying to regain financial footing with the help of state loans.
