Kathie Poppino

Gearhart

Dec. 29, 1949 — Feb. 18, 2023

Kathie Ann (Patterson) Poppino went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 18 after suffering a massive heart attack.

Kathie was born in Portland and attended school at John L. Vestal Grade School from first to eighth grade. When the family moved to Clackamas, she attended Clackamas High School, where she graduated in 1968.

Just out of high school, she married John Webber, but the marriage didn’t last. She later married Jon Fasching, and they had two children, Jennifer and Jonny. They later divorced. In 1976, Kathie met Danny Poppino. Danny and Kathy were married in 1979 in Reno, Nevada, and were together till the time of her death, nearly 44 years.

All of Kathie’s grandkids and great-grandkids affectionately called her Grummy. Kathie was all about family.

She loved her family and was proud of her Hawaiian heritage. She looked forward to the Kekoanui—Patterson reunion, where her ohana (family) got together every summer.

Kathie would work tirelessly making leis for the reunion, whether they were made out of beads or knitted. Kathie would put a table up and as the family members got to the reunion, she would welcome them with a lei and a hug.

Kathie loved to watch her boys, the Trailblazers and the Seattle Mariners. She was always an optimist about the next season.

Kathie loved to travel. Whether it was a short trip or a long trip, she loved taking the kids and grandkids camping or to Crater Lake, Wildlife Safari, the redwoods or the Oregon Coast, just to name a few. However, her favorite place to go was Hawaii.

Kathie is survived by her husband, Danny; her daughter, Jennifer (Mike); and her son, Jonny (Maria). She also is survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life at 1 p.m. June 24 at North Coast Family Fellowship, 2245 N. Wahanna Road in Seaside, followed by a potluck reception at the Bob Chisholm Community Center, 1225 Avenue A in Seaside. Please wear Hawaiian shirts or dresses; if not, just wear some brightly colored clothes.

Cremation services were provided by Hughes-Ransom Mortuary in Seaside.
