Dale Wayne Espelund, 52, passed away on Feb. 16 at his home in Portland.
Dale was born on Aug. 31, 1970, in Santa Monica, California, to Grant and Jan Espelund. He had two younger sisters, Hayley Espelund-Rogers and Brooke Carroll, and a younger brother, Leif Espelund.
After graduating from Lebanon High School, Dale moved to Portland, where he spent most of his adult life. In recent years he spent a lot of time in Astoria, Gearhart, Warrenton and Seaside while attending Clatsop Community College, where he earned a computer-aided design certificate.
Part of his time in this program was spent producing computer-aided design drawings of historic fishing boats, many of which are on display at the Pier 39 Hanthorn Cannery Museum in Astoria.
Dale was smart, witty, sarcastic, hilarious, artistic and so much more. He loved reading, making art, playing games, listening to music, riding bikes and arguing about life, politics, religion or anything else you wanted to debate.
Dale is survived by his parents, Grant and Jan; his sister, Hayley, and brother-in-law, Curt Rogers; his brother, Leif, and sister-in-law, Dani Nelson; his sister, Brooke, and brother-in-law, Ben Carroll, along with their children; and Dale’s niece, Elliana Carroll, and his nephew, Theodore Carroll.
There will be a casual memorial barbecue June 26 at 6 p.m. at Cape Lookout State Park (day use area) in Tillamook. For more information, please see bit.ly/DaleEspelund.
