- The Seaside School District is awaiting its final audit document.
Seaside School District is among 11 schools in the state without final audit documents.
The district’s last audit was for the 2020-2021 school year, Toni Vandershule, the district’s business manager, said.
School districts and educational service districts have encountered challenges this year in finding auditors, Marc Siegel, of the Oregon Department of Education, said.
Audits are required yearly by state law.
The district has undergone the audit process, Vandershule said, but has not received the final audit document. The district’s Tigard-based accounting firm, Pauly Rogers & Co, shared that they have been short-staffed with a number of turnovers, she added.
Vandershule said she remains in communication with the firm to get a final draft.
“The audit does not have to be completed before the budget passes,” she said. “However, it is very helpful to have.”
The proposed 2023-24 school district budget has approximately $27.6 million in the general fund, up from $25.2 million in the 2022-23 district budget’s general fund.
All funds in the proposed budget total more than $53 million, including debt service, capital projects and the general fund.
The budget committee will consider the proposed budget on June 20 before anticipated approval by the school board, which is required by July 1.
