Letter: Property rights at risk
Published 2:45 pm Monday, May 8, 2023
I have enjoyed my home in Cove Beach for over 30 years. However, I have only been able to afford this home by also using it as a short-term rental. I have always been a good steward of my property. This includes paying all of the required taxes and permits.
Many of my guests are there for family reunions and weddings. Being able to rent a house versus a hotel room makes a beach trip affordable for families, since they can make their own meals and do laundry. This is not always possible at hotels.
Measure 4-221 puts my property rights in jeopardy and yours, as well. If you want your children and grandchildren to be able to use your home in the future, especially if you need to relocate elsewhere for any reason, including health care, you will want to preserve the short-term rental option.
I urge you to vote “no.”
