Representatives from 13 nonprofits went before the city’s budget committee in mid-April seeking city funds to be delivered to local nonprofit organizations.

The financial awards are “not set in stone at this point,” Zach Fleck, the city of Seaside’s finance director said after the April 28 budget committee meeting. “But I feel that we are in a good place with it.”

The city gave more than $137,500 to 11 local nonprofit organizations in 2022-23, out of a requested $152,000.

For the 2023-24 budget, a total of $181,000 was requested by the Clatsop County-based nonprofits.

On April 28, the committee tentatively awarded $124,000, of which $38,000 of that amount is contingent on future conversations with City Council.

Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers, which provides navigation, support and care for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Oregon, asked for $50,000 to maintain and grow services in Seaside.

Viviana Matthews, the Clatsop Community Action executive director, said they are seeking $20,000 to support the Seaside warming center and the regional food bank.

The Harbor provides advocacy, prevention, and support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Terri Steenbergen, executive director of The Harbor, requested $18,000 designed to offer crisis intervention, legal and court advocacy for victims’ rights and coordinated referrals to community partners.

The South County Community Food Bank asked for $10,000 to support the mission of the food pantry and efforts to eliminate food insecurity among local families, representative Darren Gooch said.

Additional nonprofits under consideration include the Court Appointed Special Advocates, the Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District Foundation, The Seaside Museum and Historical Society, the North Coast Food Web, Restoration House, the Little Yellow House and El Centro NW, a Seaside-based organization offering programs for the Hispanic community.

Future budget committee meetings take place on May 10 at 3 p.m., May 17 at 6 p.m. and May 25 at 3 p.m.
