Johnson is a 47-year resident of Brownsmead, where he and his wife, Jan, have raised their 10 children, several of whom have attended Clatsop College.

He has served on the Knappa School Board for over 20 years, and is currently the chairman. He would use his wealth of experience as a board of education member to help steer  Clatsop Community College to a bright future. His focus will be to make sure students get the best bang for their bucks.

Those who move on to a university are well prepared, and those completing certificate programs are qualified and sought out by employers because of the excellent reputation of Clatsop Community College graduates.
