Clatsop County Public Health awards five mini-grants

Clatsop County Public Health is awarding a total of $30,000 to five local organizations that applied for one-time mini-grants to support Clatsop County substance abuse prevention efforts.

The Art Room received $7,000 for its After School Art Program, which will hold art classes for kindergarten through eighth grade students.

Astoria High School received $6,500 for its Lewis and Clark Elementary School Mentorship Program. High school juniors and seniors will mentor third, fourth and fifth grade students.

Astoria Middle School received $4,750 for the Mi Gente leadership class. Seventh and eighth grade Hispanic students will use the funding for field trips in Clatsop County and Portland.

Build Your Nest received $4,750 for its Perinatal Substance Use Prevention program, and Northwest Parenting received $7,000 for the Clatsop County parenting skills program Spanish Active Parenting of Teens.
