Letter: When in doubt, vote ‘no’

When in doubt, vote “no!” Measure 4-221 is confusing, but one thing is clear — it is a violation of your property rights! I am voting “no” to protect my right to do as I please with my personal property. I have the right to derive income from my property, and you do, too!
The measure strips property rights from people who choose to rent their homes when they are not using them, offering them to locals and guests from all over the world. The Clatsop County commissioners voted unanimously to keep short-term rental permits legal in unincorporated areas because as a county, it must act on behalf of all people. It cannot cater to a minority of citizens who scream the loudest.
Prohibition is not the answer — keep our Ordinance 22-05, which lawfully regulates us! We are responsible citizens who truly want to collaborate with all of our neighbors. Vote “no” to show the county commissioners you support their decisions, and you value your property rights.
