Welcome to the Seaside Signal. A busy week ahead as we maintain coverage of a homicide in Seaside, look to a police chief town hall in Gearhart and winter sports playoffs.
Go Gulls!
If the Astoria and Seaside boys basketball teams meet for a fifth time this season, it will be in the state playoffs. The Gulls celebrated their third Clatsop Clash win of 2022-23, with a 57-47 victory over the visiting Fishermen to close out the Cowapa League season.
The No. 6 seed at the 4A level, Seaside will host a state playoff game March 4. Seaside finishes league play 11-1 and 19-4 overall. Read more here.
Special district candidates sought
Want to make a difference in the community? Spring district elections are ahead, with openings in both the Seaside School District and Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District. Voting takes place on May 16.
We’ll be following these and other local elections. Don’t miss the deadline — candidates have until March 16 to file for all special district races.
Comprehensive Plan
State law requires each city and county to adopt a comprehensive plan and the zoning and land-division ordinances needed to put the plan into effect. Seaside is in the process of updating theirs, adopted in 1983.
Jeff Flory, the city’s community development director, calls the plan “where we are right now and where we want to go in the next 20 years.”
Make your voice heard as consultants develop the plan, and stay on top of all the local news in the Signal in print and online.
