If the Astoria and Seaside boys basketball teams meet for a fifth time this season, it will be in the state playoffs.

On Feb. 23, the Gulls celebrated their third Clatsop Clash win of the 2022-23 season, with a 57-47 victory over the visiting Fishermen to close out the Cowapa League season.

The No. 6 seed at the 4A level, Seaside will host a state playoff game against Marist Catholic on Saturday, March 4.

Close for the entire first half, Seaside built an 11-point lead midway through the third quarter, and maintained an eight- to 12-point advantage the remainder of the game to cap another league championship season.

Seaside junior Caleb Langmo hit five 3-pointers for a team-high 15 points, with sophomore Austin Palmer adding 13 points. Sophomore Jake White scored eight points off the bench.

Junior Merrick Benesch scored 15 points for Astoria, which included a 3-pointer that brought the Fishermen to within 43-35, before Langmo answered with a trey for the Gulls.

With just one senior starter, Seaside finishes league play 11-1 (19-4 overall), with Astoria second (8-4, 15-9 overall). Scappoose, with six seniors, took third (7-5), followed by St. Helens and Tillamook, both 2-10.
