Gearhart chief recruitment
At their December meeting, the council chose GMP Consultants, based in Snoqualmie, Washington, to launch an executive search. Phase one of the $15,000 project began with information gathering, profile development and position announcement.
The best candidate could come from Oregon, Prothman said, with state certification and a familiarity with Oregon policing.
Good candidates may also come from up and down the West Coast.
Candidates may include a lieutenant, detective or sergeant who has enough administrative skill sets to manage the upper side of being a police chief, yet has all the still intact skill sets of being a patrol officer, Prothman said.
Goal-setting
In Seaside, council members gathered over the weekend for the city’s biennial goal-setting. Goals made during the January sessions are set for two- and four-year periods.
In 2021, the city and its consultants, the Coraggio Group, set goals to address homelessness, natural resources, emergency response and resiliency. Guiding principles sought to preserve the desirability of Seaside through inclusivity, decisions in the city’s best interests and resources to support those decisions.
The city and Coraggio Group signed a $12,000 agreement in December for meetings with councilors, city staff and department heads prior to the retreats.
This weekend, on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28, the council will meet with consultants to align two-year and four-year high-level goals, identify measures of success, monitor progress and report on impact.
According to the proposed statement of work, the council will develop specific actions to support each of the goals, followed by a conversation about next steps and implementation.
Within a week of the retreat, consultants Coraggio Group will provide a one-page plan that documents both the conversation and the strategic decisions made.
Sky and sea
You never know what’s going to drop from the sky or wash in from the sea. Not one but two whales washed up onshore near the Peter Iredale, a sperm whale and gray whale. In Seaside, police responded to a report of a dead bald eagle found overnight in a driveway on S. Downing on Jan. 19.
