- “Whoville” comes to the home of Samantha and Michael Thomas each holiday season.
Hi there and wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season from the Seaside Signal.
‘Tis the season be giving and we feature some of those who have made a difference: The Rotary volunteers who brought Christmas toys to local families, the group “Nourish Those in Need,” which feeds the homeless at the Mill Ponds campsite, and the generous donors and volunteers of Food 4 Kids, bringing nutritious meals to school children for over the weekend. Make sure to share your group’s good news in the Signal.
Police chief search
Gearhart police Chief Jeff Bowman will retire in April. He announced his retirement in November.Gearhart began its recruitment for a new police chief at a special City Council meeting on Dec. 13. The council chose GMP Consultants, based in Snoqualmie, Washington, to launch an executive search.
Filling the chief’s position won’t be easy, City Councilor Dana Gould, a former law enforcement officer, said.
“There’s not going to be an abundance of people that are going to want to fill this position. I’m predicting that right now,” she said. “It’s a very tough time to fill this position.” Read more here.
On the court
And the Gulls boys and girls basketball teams both continue to strut their stuff on the court, with wins at the Seaside Holiday Classic. In the first of at least four meetings this season between the two teams (three at Seaside), the Gulls boys defeated Astoria 53-32 to win yet another title in their own tournament.
Seaside girls took a third place at the tournament, defeating Rochester — a 2A Washington school. Seaside held off Rochester 37-24 in the third place game of the Seaside Holiday Classic on Dec. 17.
