Tour of Lights: Santa comes to Whoville

In “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” the location of Whoville isn’t mentioned. But this holiday season, Seaside residents know exactly where to find the storied Dr. Seuss community — at the home of Samantha and Michael Thomas.

“Whoville brings cheer to everybody,” Samantha Thomas said. “That’s what my whole Christmas display is about, is to make everybody smile.”

This is the fifth year the Thomases have decorated their home, one of six stops listed in the Seaside Chamber of Commerce 2022 Tour of Lights.

They’ve had displays the last five years, and try to add something new every year.

“Michael helps me with everything,” she said. “He puts the lights up on the house. I put all the stuff out in the yard — and then he takes it down.”

Some of the decor comes with a history — the Santa Claus on their porch was her grandmother’s before it was passed down through the family.

Homes in the Seaside Tour of Lights will display their seasonal lights and decorations through Dec. 31. Once finished visitors can go to the Seaside Chamber of Commerce website and vote for their favorite houses.

“It just makes me happy,” Samantha Thomas said. “I want to make everybody else happy.”
