Hi there and happy holidays from the Seaside Signal!

In every issue and online, we bring you up-to-date on news in the community.

Ridgeline Trail

Volunteers, the school district and local businesses have teamed to create opportunities for students, walkers, runners and mountain biking. The Ridgeline Trail begins at the northeast corner of the track and ends at the southwest corner on Spruce Drive

There are few better views than the top of the hill above the Seaside High School campus, and a new trail will give everyone the opportunity to share the vistas.

Five decades of service

When Dan Van Thiel started as city attorney, man had not yet landed on the moon and Lyndon Johnson was the president. That was 52 years ago, in 1969 — and last week Seaside announced a search for a new city attorney. Van Thiel provides his parting thoughts as he looks back on his years of service.

“It’s been a wonderful city for me to represent and I’ve enjoyed it,” he says in an interview.

City scorecard

Van Thiel is only one of a number of Seaside leaders, staff and elected officials to change roles this year — not only a new attorney, but a new city manager, planning director, building official, finance director, convention center general manager and Seaside Chamber of Commerce CEO. Ahead will be changes as a new library director and public works director — not to mention a new mayor and city councilor. Keep track of who’s who.
