Girls Basketball Roundup: Gulls looks to season improvement

A jump shot by freshman Ella Brenden gave Seaside a 5-3 lead late in the first quarter, but Marist Catholic went on a 14-0 run and never trailed again for an eventual 48-24 win over the Lady Gulls in a non-league girls basketball game Dec. 2 at Seaside.

The Gulls had trouble containing Marist senior Paige Doerr, who finished with a game-high 25 points, 17 in the first half to help the Spartans post a 28-10 halftime lead. Doerr added six points in the third quarter for a 41-17 lead.

Freshman Lili Miller led Seaside with eight points.

Cascade tops Gulls

The Seaside girls basketball team opened the 2022-23 season Wednesday night in Turner, where Cascade topped the Lady Gulls 61-34 in a non-league contest.

Seaside freshman Carly Corder had the season’s inaugural points with a 3-pointer to open the game, but Cascade dominated after.

The Cougars closed the first quarter with a pair of 3-pointers from junior Maddie Dustin and freshman Cassidy Crabtree, and a 7-0 run near the end of the first half had Cascade in front, 30-11.

Corder and fellow freshman Ella Brenden each had 10 points for Seaside. Dustin led all scorers with 18 points (nine in the first quarter), with teammates Meah Carley and freshman Olivia Bennett adding 10 points each.
