The holiday season received its unofficial kickoff Nov. 25 with Seaside’s annual parade of lights and tree lighting. Hundreds gathered along Broadway in chilly temperatures as Chamber of Commerce volunteers provided gingerbread cookies and warm beverages to attendees.
Mayor Jay Barber and his wife, Jan Barber, attended the Seaside Museum’s high tea earlier in the day.
By nighttime, Jay Barber was bundled up by the public announcement booth as vehicles and parade participants strolled down the street with green, red and white lights flashing.
“This is so consummately Seaside,” Jay Barber said. “They’re going to be here in pouring rain for the parade.”
Chanell Majji of the Seaside Chamber of Commerce had been out and about since 7 a.m., helping to set up the Seaside Artisan Fair at the convention center.
The fair hosted visitors Nov. 25 and 26 , plus an opportunity for pictures with Santa Claus.
Santa joined the parade before the holiday tree lighting and taking more photos with kids .
Majji estimated more than 30 volunteers assisted with the event, including members of the chamber and from the community.
