Letter: Two Gearhart candidates comply

Laws matter. They do. Candidates should research and follow the law, because how they campaign is how they’ll govern. I hope you agree.
The Oregon Secretary of State’s 2022 Campaign Finance Manual says if a candidate exceeds $750 in either contributions or expenditures, the candidate must file a candidate committee within three business days, and either file a certificate of limited contributions and expenditures (if eligible) or file all transactions not later than seven calendar days after the threshold is exceeded. In-kind contributions (donations of items or services rather than money), and money drawn from the candidate’s personal account would have to be included as contributions that go towards that $750 threshold. Anonymous contributions are prohibited by law.
Two candidates for Gearhart City Council have complied with the above requirements. You may research this information here: https://secure.sos.state.or.us/orestar/GotoSearchByName.do
