Letter: Ask the tough questions

The ballots are out. Please join me in protecting Gearhart by voting for Brent Warren and Dana Gould for Gearhart City Council.

With Brent and Dana, you won’t hear gaslighting about fake water issues, new substandard infrastructure and urban growth boundary developments outside city limits. What you will hear is honest information and a willingness to listen to our residents and protect the Gearhart comprehensive plan to keep our community low density and residential.

With the Gearhart Elementary School property owner and developer Robert Morey stating in The Signal and in public emails his desire to potentially rezone his property into higher density R-2, it’s important that we have strong independent councilors that will ask the tough questions like: How would a new development along Pacific Way affect traffic? How would it affect local septic capacity and water quality? How would it affect nearby home values? Would preserving the open space be a better option for our community?

Brent and Dana will continue to work with the City Council to protect our zoning and quality of life. They understand the importance of open space and how keeping Gearhart zoning intact is the key to preserving our quality of life which includes protecting short-term rental regulations and low-density neighborhoods.

We are lucky that Gearhart is zoned the way it is to preserve property values, conserve park space and protect against unlimited vacation rentals. Brent and Dana will not let wealthy developers dictate how Gearhart is zoned, they will protect what makes Gearhart special.
