- Visitors take a peek at the pumpkin before the giant pumpkin drop on Oct. 30 at 2:15 p.m. at the Turnaround.
The giant pumpkin for the pumpkin drop is on display inside the Seaside Carousel Mall at 300 Broadway until Sunday, Oct. 30, when it will be driven to the Turnaround for the Pumpkin Drop at 2:15 p.m.
The event, a Seaside tradition, draws hundreds to watch a 1,000-pound pumpkin dropped 40 feet from a crane into a pool of water.
The pumpkin drop is one of a weekend of Halloween Happenin’s events presented by the Seaside Downtown Development Association, starting Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. with a “witches’ paddle” at the Quatat Park launch behind the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. Participants are invited to dress up as a witch or warlock and take to the water with paddle board, kayak, rowboat and life preservers. The paddle lasts about an hour.
From noon to 3 p.m., game booths will be open at Quatat Park between the convention center and The Bridge Tender. Costumes are welcome but not required for participation.
On Oct. 30, the parade opens for registration at 9 a.m. between Seaside Slushies and Dogs and Broadway Mini Mart. The parade starts at 10. Pets are invited to dress in costume and take a stroll down Broadway to the Turnaround before ending at the Times Theatre & Public House.
Trunk or Treat, from noon to 2 p.m., takes place on Broadway between Columbia and the Turnaround. Children are invited to dress up and bring their trick-or-treat bags.
The day concludes with the pumpkin drop, which includes a contest for the plastic duck or beaver that splashes the furthest after the pumpkin drops into the pool below.
