Seaside City Councilor Tita Montero will serve as a member of the League of Oregon Cities Board of Directors. Montero was also elected vice president of the League of Oregon Cities Women’s Caucus.
Montero holds the Ward 2 seat in Seaside and is up for reelection against challenger Dan Schorr.
The League of Oregon Cities provides information and training for elected city officials and staff. They completed their 97th annual conference in Bend Oct. 5 to 7.
“We all learn from each other,” Montero said. “Everybody was looking to collaborate, to be collegial, to help each other share the knowledge and the wealth — as opposed to being competitive.”
Officials from cities large and small share experience and policy on topics like housing, homelessness and emergency preparedness. Montero, who will serve a three-year term, represents Region 1 — Clatsop, Tillamook and Washington counties — of 12 regions statewide.
“I’ll be able to make a difference in the kinds of presentations that the league makes,” she said. “I’m bringing a voice of the coastal communities to a state organization.”
Along with attending board meetings, Montero will participate in a League of Oregon Cities “Elected Essentials” training and a five-hour homelessness workshop in Newport. The women’s caucus meets the third Tuesday of every month.
The League of Oregon Cities will hold its spring conference in Seaside April 25 and April 26 at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center.
